Sharon Briss: Ribbon Organization Idea

I have tried drawers, baskets, and posts for my ribbon and nothing ever seemed to work. While checking out some studio organizing options at The Container Store, I came across some stackable market baskets. I immediately knew what I was going to do with them!

I bought some simple dowels at the craft store and cut them down to just a bit longer than the basket. I then placed my ribbons on the dowels by color and threaded the leading ends through the slots! Voila! Great ribbon storage without the tangle or stacking and all where I can see it!

What's your favorite way to store ribbon? Leave a comment to let us know.

  1. Fabulous idea Shar! If I can find some baskets like that I may just give it a try.
The idea I came up with but havent found the parts for yet is to take an old dresser drawer, remove the front panel so it is now just the plain drawer. Drill holes in the side for dowels to slide through. You can anchor this onto the wall. You can have as many rows as you like and I am going to staple heavy plastic to cover the front so dust doesnt get to the gorgeous ribbons!
Geeezz I have just written a novel!

  2. What a great idea!! I don't have many ribbons on spools, I usually only by shorter lengths in bundles - so they are bundled in a A4 sized storage box and I just rummage for what I want....

  5. Love your idea. I had my dh take a 3" by 18" piece of wood, he drilled holes with a drill press and then glued in some craft rods. The ribbon rolls stack upwards on the rods. Easily holds 88 rolls of ribbon in various sizes.

  6. What a great idea...you could probably easily attach them to the wall too.

It also pays to look at what you might have around the house. The other day I noticed that the shelf brackets above my desk would hold a dowel..so I added ribbon storage there too.

  8. Great idea, I just don't have room for baskets. I keep Valentine and Christmas ribbon spools with the stash to match in lg. plastic scrapbook paper containers. The rest of my ribbons are not on spools but in lengths sorted on 3 large binder rings by color. They look great hanging on the door and are easy to see. This is a commercial product, "Ribbon Rings"?
